• Guglielmo Luigi Cottrau (Paris 1797- Naples) was a man of great learning and charm, well versed in many aspects of the neapolitan culture. As a composer he wrote several songs, well known still today, and also researched extensively on popular motifs, making skilfull arrangements of many of them, giving an outstanding contribution in divulging Neapolitan songs in Italy, France and then all over the world. He published the 'Passatempi Musicali', a collection of 113 songs.
