• Guglielmo Luigi Cottrau (Paris 1797- Naples) was a man of great learning and charm, well versed in many aspects of the neapolitan culture. As a composer he wrote several songs, well known still today, and also researched extensively on popular motifs, making skilfull arrangements of many of them, giving an outstanding contribution in divulging Neapolitan songs in Italy, France and then all over the world. He published the 'Passatempi Musicali', a collection of 113 songs.
• Teodoro Cottrau (Naples 1827-Naples 1879), first child of Guglielmo, was a talented composer too: his world famous 'Santa Lucia' is considered the very beginning of the story of the Italian song. He published the ' Eco del Vesuvio', a periodic magazine of songs, as well the 'Le mille canzoni di Napoli' and eight albums of the 'Celebrated popular songs'.
